The boarding school Institut Lucius was founded in 1809 and thus can look back on over 200 years of a well-developed and highly organized educational system. The school’s core values – honesty, respect, appreciation, and self-confidence – have always strengthened its educational mission from within. Institut Lucius firmly believes that the knowledge and skills students acquire – whether practical skills, subject expertise, or communication abilities – must be applied in practice in order to be fully retained. Self-confidence plays a significant role as a key motivational factor in this process. The Steigerwald-Landschulheim Wiesentheid (LSH) Gymnasium was founded in 1945. This public high school with an integrated boarding program is located in Bavaria, near the beautiful city of Würzburg. LSH places great importance on providing students with a familial environment that fosters a joy of learning and experiencing. The school focuses on the personal development of its students, emphasizing tolerance and openness in interactions with others. Through its educational approach, LSH aims to guide students toward independence so they can shape their own future. The integrated boarding program provides students with the ideal environment to support this development. By combining a focused study atmosphere with a structured leisure program, the boarding school nurtures the overall growth and development of its students.

At the heart of daily school life is the interaction between students and teachers. The relatively small number of students allows for pedagogically effective class and course sizes. The curriculum follows the guidelines of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Heidelberg College is currently attended by over 500 girls and boys, distributed across 21 classes. The classes are smaller than those at public schools. The school has extensive science collections, which enable highly illustrative, experiment-based lessons in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The specialized classrooms are equipped with multimedia technology. In the modern, high-performance network, students become familiar with working on computers and can explore the Internet as a rich source of information.

The Firstwald-Gymnasium Mössingen is a two-track, general full-time high school operated by the School Foundation of the Protestant Church in Württemberg, with a special focus on the subject “Human and Media.” In 2010, the school was awarded the German School Prize in the category “School Development,” and in 2016 and 2019 it was recognized as a “STEM-friendly School,” followed by the title “Digital School” in 2019. The mission of the Evangelical Firstwald-Gymnasium, as a place for learning and living, is guided by the Christian understanding of humanity and its values: as God’s creation and image, each person’s dignity and individuality are inviolable. “Through the affirmation of Jesus Christ, we experience that we are accepted just as we are, with our strengths and weaknesses. God’s Spirit helps us live together as a community, celebrate together, and treat one another with respect and care.”

The Gabrieli-Gymnasium Eichstätt views the school community as the collaboration between students, teachers, parents, and school staff. Together, they strive to achieve the goals they have set, consistently adhering to established rules. Daily life and work are characterized by courtesy and fairness, especially in conflict situations. Teaching is understood as a joint endeavor between teachers and students, with an expectation of openness and a willingness from all to work together for learning success. The teachers conduct lessons in a clear and academically sound manner, using varied methods tailored to the students’ learning prerequisites and objectives. Students contribute their curiosity, commitment, and creativity to the learning process.

The Landschulheim Kempfenhausen is a public high school with a boarding program and full-day offerings, operated under municipal authority. Like any public high school, it is open to students from the Starnberg area for external enrollment. The school offers an open full-day program (day school). The boarding program is available for both boys and girls and welcomes students from grades 5 to 12. The program includes accommodation and meals, educational support from residential supervisors, and academic guidance from teachers. Currently, around 70 students of the high school live in the boarding program.

The boarding program at Franken-Landschulheim Schloss Gaibach offers 169 places, accommodating up to 100 boys and a maximum of 80 girls. Students who wish to attend the high school or secondary school of Franken-Landschulheim can be admitted to the boarding program, subject to available spaces. The primary school group is open to boys and girls planning to transition to secondary education; these students attend classes at the Verbandsschule in Volkach. Boarding students live in groups averaging 14 children, each supported by a dedicated residential supervisor, within the historic rooms of Schloss Gaibach. Sports facilities and park grounds are available to all students during their free time.

The Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium is a coeducational, medium-sized high school with both a music and a language branch. These two branches are symbolically represented in the school logo by a violin and a quill. Unique in Bavaria is the opportunity for musically talented students to participate in the Music Excellence Program. Their modern and well-equipped boarding facility provides comprehensive care for students of all ages whose parents are unable to do so due to time constraints or when the daily commute would take too long. The day boarding program offers full-day supervision until at least 4 p.m. Students are supported in small groups by social educators while completing their homework and receive individual academic guidance from the school’s subject teachers.

The Max-Josef-Stift Gymnasium is a state-run girls’ high school with both a language and music branch, located in the heart of Munich. On its beautiful campus in the Bogenhausen district, the school also offers a day school program and a boarding option for its students. The school stands for openness and tolerance, combining modernity with tradition. The boarding school has a history spanning over 200 years: when it was founded in 1813 by King Max I. Joseph as the “Royal Educational Institute for Daughters of the Upper Classes,” the Stift was already a boarding school for girls of all denominations. It has remained a girls’ school to this day, not only out of respect for tradition, but because the school has found that it can more effectively support and strengthen its students’ self-confidence as a girls’ school.

The Max Reger Boarding School, a traditional boarding school in the heart of the Upper Palatinate, is the only state-run boarding school in the region. Through the educational integration of school and boarding program, the boarding school serves two purposes: it partners with parents to support the upbringing of their children and fulfills the school’s educational mission through close collaboration with the Max-Reger-Gymnasium. The unique community of the boarding school provides students with optimal opportunities for academic success and personal development. Valuable experiences living and learning with peers prepare the “boarding students” for the future.

The Marktoberdorf Boarding School accommodates students from all three types of secondary schools. Some boarding places are reserved from the outset for students from Realschule and Mittelschule, and if it turns out that the Gymnasium is not the right fit, students can remain at the boarding school in a familiar environment and complete their intermediate school diploma at the neighboring schools. In addition to creating a welcoming atmosphere where students feel at home and accepted, supporting academic learning is a particular focus. In manageable study groups of 5–10 students, the full-time residential supervisors are supported by the high school teachers in the study halls, who provide competent guidance to students with questions and challenges in their respective subjects.

The Landschulheim Marquartstein Gymnasium, due to its reform-pedagogical tradition dating back to its founder Herman Harless, has developed its own educational concept. This concept aims to combine the transmission of knowledge with personal development. Closely connected to the school are the boarding program, which accommodates around 110 students, and the day program, which serves about 60 students. In addition to fostering effective and independent learning, the primary goal of the boarding program’s educational work is to impart life skills and social competencies.
